Basket By Marie Biondi With Three Seconds To Play Lifts UB Women's Basketball To 60-58 Win At Caldwell
Purple Knights Now 4-0 On The Year
Caldwell, N.J.-A rebound basket by senior Marie Biondi (West Haven, Conn.) with just three seconds to play help lift the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team to a hard-fought, 60-58, road win over the Caldwell College Cougars in New Jersey on Monday night. With the win, in a game that featured 12 ties and 12 lead changes, the Purple Knights remained undefeated on the season at 4-0. Caldwell slips to 1-5 on the year. Monday's contest was the first road game of the year for Bridgeport and the home opener for Caldwell.
Trailing 58-52 with just under two minutes to play, the Cougars tied the game up at 58-58 with 30 seconds to play. Bridgeport then ran the clock down to 10 second to go, when junior Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) drove to the hoop but her shot was off the mark; however Biondi was there to grab the board and hit the game-winning shot.
Graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) led the Purple Knights with 22 points. Senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) had a double-double for Bridgeport with 20 points and 10 rebounds plus she chipped in five steals.
As a team, Bridgeport scored 27 points off 24 Caldwell turnovers, and shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second half.
Jeanette Anderson led Caldwell with a game-high 24 points, and she added 13 rebounds.
The Bridgeport women are back on the court on Wednesday afternoon, November 21 at Post University. Game time for the pre-Thanksgiving affair in Waterbury, Conn. is set for 2:00 p.m.
