NYIT Tops Women's Basketball 82-65 In Purple Knights' Season Finale
Junior Tanisha Carter Wraps Up Campaign With 8th Double-Double Of The Year With 24 Points And 11 Rebounds
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team closed out its 2011-12 season on Saturday afternoon with an 82-65 road loss on Long Island versus the New York Institute of Technology Bears. UB ends its season with an 8-18 overall record and a 6-10 East Coast Conference mark. NYIT moves onto the 2012 ECC Championship Tournament with a 16-12 overall mark and a 9-7 conference record.
The Bears broke open a game in which they led by only one-point, 35-34, at the half, with a 29-14 run in the first 10:15 of the second half to take an insurmountable 64-50 advantage.
Junior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) led Bridgeport in scoring and rebounding recording her eighth double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomores Colleen Preusse (Danbury, Conn.) and Milena Lazarevic (Gmunden, Austria) were next in scoring for the Purple Knights as they each netted nine points.
Cierra Baker led a balanced NYIT attack, as five players reached double-digit scoring, with 15 points.
