Women's Basketball Drops Home Finale To STAC, 68-59
Purple Knights Close Out 2011-12 Season At NYIT On Saturday
Bridgeport, Conn-Junior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added four assists, plus senior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, but it was not in enough for the host University of Bridgeport women's basketball team, as the Purple Knights dropped their 2011-12 home finale, 68-59, to the St. Thomas Aquinas College Lady Spartans on Wednesday night. UB is now 8-17 overall and 6-9 in East Coast Conference play. STAC raises its overall mark to 15-10, and the Lady Spartans are now 10-5 in the ECC.
Bridgeport got off to a good start in the game, as the Purple Knights held a 13-2 lead at the 15:12 mark of the first half, but STAC roared back to take a 29-20 halftime advantage closing the first half on a 27-7 run.
Briana Sloper led three STAC players in double-figure scoring with a game-high 27 points. Sloper also added 10 boards for the winners.
UB now hits the road to close out the season at NYIT on Saturday afternoon. Game time on Long Island is set for 12 noon.
