Tanisha Carter Notches A Double-Double With 25 Points And 10 Boards
Washington, D.C.-Lauren Bittingham scored her team's first 11 points of the game, and the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds raced out to a 38-19 halftime lead on their way to a 78-56 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon in our nation's capital. With the victory, UDC, which came into play ranked number 25 in the nation in Division II women's basketball, is now 20-4 overall and 11-3 in the ECC. UB falls to 8-16 overall and 6-8 in conference action.
The Firebirds put the game away in the first half connecting on 57.1 percent of their shots (16 of 28), while the Purple Knights hit only four total field goals in the first 20 minutes going 4-of-31 (12.9%) from the floor.
Bittingham led three UBD players in double-figure scoring with 18 points.
Bridgeport's Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) led all players in the game with a double-double scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Carter was joined in double figures by senior Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 11 points.
The Bridgeport women will close out their 2011-12 home schedule on Wednesday night in Hubbell Gym when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
