UB Women Score Final 15 Points Of The Game To Defeat Queens, 56-42
UB Holds QC Scoreless Over Final Seven Minutes Of Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team went on a 15-0 run during the final seven minutes of the game to post a 56-42 home East Coast Conference win over the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights. Trailing 42-41, UB took a 44-42 lead, which they never relinquished, on a three-pointer by senior Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 6:41 to play. Marant would then hit a another jump shot before classmate Julia Colley (Harlow, England) hit four straight field goals to score eight straight points to give the Purple Knights a 54-42 lead with 1:45 to play. A basket by junior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) capped off the team's 15-0 run with just over one minute to play.
The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Purple Knights who are now 8-15 overall and 6-7 in conference play. Queens falls to 1-21 overall, and the Knights remain winless in conference play at 0-12.
Three UB players reached double-figure scoring led by Carter with 16 points. Colley added 14 points, eight of which came in the game-winning 15-0 run, and Marant netted 11 points, plus she added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals on the day. Senior Marie Biondi (West Haven, Conn.) also had seven rebounds for the winners.
Megan White led Queens scoring nine points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
On the day, Bridgeport dished out 20 assists as a team and committed only nine turnovers. Queens struggled to take care of the basketball committing 31 turnovers which were converted into 28 points for the Purple Knights.
The UB women are back in action next Saturday afternoon as the team travels to our nation's capital for a big ECC contest versus the University of the District of Columbia. Game time on February 18 is set for 1:00 p.m.
