Women's Basketball Edged At Molloy, 56-54
Purple Knights Cannot Overcome Cold Shooting Night
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team just could not find its rhythm on offense on Wednesday night as the Purple Knights shot only 28 percent from the floor (21 of 76), as the UB dropped a tough 56-54 East Coast Conference road decision to the host Molloy College Lions. Bridgeport, which never led on the night but trailed by only one point, 51-50 with 2:30 to play, is now 7-15 overall and 5-7 in conference play. Molloy raises its overall mark to 10-12, and the Lions are now 6-6 in the ECC. Trailing by what proved to be the final score of 56-54 with 29 seconds to play; UB had two trips down the court to either tie or take the lead in the game but could not score.
Sophomore Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 12 points. Patterson was joined in double-figure scoring by freshman Jenna Hoffman (Manchester Center, Vt.) with a career-high 11 points and senior Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 10 points. UB junior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds.
Graduate student Amanda Bartlett of Molloy led all scorers in the game with 13 points, and Jessica DeNicola had a double-double for the Lions with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bridgeport women will look to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon at home when they host the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday is also "Donate Life" day in Hubbell Gym with proceeds from the game through ticket sales and many fantastic raffles going to the Donate Life Connecticut group to help raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.
