Purple Knights Rally From 16 Down In The Second Half But Comeback Falls Just Short
Bridgeport, Conn.-Felicia Joyner scored five of her team-leading 25 points in overtime to help lead the visiting C.W. Post Pioneers to a 77-72 East Coast Conference win in overtime over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pioneers are 16-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play. Bridgeport is now 7-14 overall and 5-6 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights rebounded from a 16-point second half deficit, 40-24, with 18:45 to play in regulation to take a 67-64 lead with 21 seconds to play in the second half, but UB could not closed out the win as CWP's Catherine Lutz drained a three-point shot with just three second on the clock to tie things at 67-67 and send the game into overtime.
Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) played a strong game of the Bridgeport bench notching a double-double to lead the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds plus four steals before fouling out.
Marant was joined in double figure by sophomore Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) who scored 20 points and had a game-high eight assists, and senior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) who had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Joyner was joined in double-figure scoring for the Pioneers by Lutz who netted 11 points.
The Bridgeport women are back in action at Molloy on Wednesday night for a key conference game that tips off in Rockville Centre, New York at 6:00 p.m.
