UB Women Nipped By C.W. Post, 69-66, In ECC Championship Final
Bridgeport Ends 2010-11 Season With 17-14 Record
Bridgeport, Conn.-East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player Janea Aiken of C.W. Post hit a lay-up with just 11 seconds to play to give her team a 67-66 lead and then iced the Pioneers victory and a trip to the NCAA Division II National Tournament with two made free with one second to go, as C.W. Post topped the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 69-66, in the 2011 ECC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament Final in Bridgeport, Conn. on Sunday afternoon. CWP moves into the NCAA Tournament with a 17-12 record. Bridgeport closes out its 2010-11 campaign at 17-14.
Aiken led C.W. Post with 23 points, and she was joined in double figures by teammates Felicia Joyner with 14 points and Ashley Caggiano who netted 12 points.
Bridgeport senior Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) led all scorers and rebounders in the game with 27 points and 14 boards. Keil also blocked four shots on the afternoon.
Senior Ivana Savic (Belgrade, Serbia), who joined Keil on the 2011 All-ECC Championship Tournament Team, also reached double-digit scoring with 11 points, and junior Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in 10 points for the Purple Knights.
