UB Women Fall At St. Thomas Aquinas, 57-44
Loss Ends Purple Knights Six-Game Winning Streak
Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night as the Purple Knights lost a 57-44 East Coast Conference road decision at St. Thomas Aquinas College. With the loss, UB heads into its 2010-11 regular season finale at C.W. Post on Saturday afternoon with 15-12 overall record and a 13-7 conference mark. The defeat also drops Bridgeport into third place in the ECC standings, so the Purple Knights must now win at C.W. Post on Saturday and second place Dowling College must loss at Mercy on Saturday for UB to receive a first round bye in next week's conference tournament. The Purple Knights are guaranteed no worse than a third seed and a first round home game in next week's ECC Championship. With the win, STAC wraps the 2010-11 ECC regular season women's title and the top seed in the ECC Championship. The Lady Spartans are now 20-7 overall and 16-4 in conference play.
STAC jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the game and never looked back.
Senior Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) was the only Bridgeport player to reach double figures with 10 points on the night.
St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore Shpresa Liharevic led all scorers in the game with 26 points, as she connected on six-of-eight three-point shots.
