UB Women Win Fifth Straight Game With 65-53 ECC Road Victory Over NYIT
Kelly Keil Leads Purple Knights With 20 Points
Old Westbury, N.Y.-Senior Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team to a 65-53 East Coast Conference road win over the host New York Tech Lady Bears on Wednesday night. The win, UB's fifth in a row, raises the Purple Knights' overall record to 14-11, and they are now 12-6 in conference play. NYIT falls to 7-16 overall and 5-13 in the ECC.
Keil was joined in double-figure scoring by sophomore Elsebeth Birman (Silver Spring, Md.) with 12 points, and senior Ivana Savic (Belgrade, Serbia) who netted 11 points and grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds.
NYIT's Cierra Baker led the Lady Bears with 14 points, and she had a double-double grabbing 16 boards.
Bridgeport trailed 25-24 at halftime.
The Purple Knights will look to run their winning streak to six games when they play their regular season home finale on Saturday afternoon when they host Queens (N.Y.) College. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m.
