Elinor Avny Nets A Career-High 30 Points To Help UB Women To A 68-60 Home Win Over Molloy
Senior Scores The Purple Knights' Last 10 Points To Seal Team's Fourth Straight Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior guard Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) scored a career-high 30 point, including her team's final 10 points of the game, as she helped lead the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team to a 68-60 home East Cost Conference win over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Saturday afternoon. The win is Bridgeport's fourth in a row, and the team's seventh triumph in their last eight outings. The Purple Knights are now 13-11 overall and 11-6 in conference play. Molloy falls to 7-17 overall and 7-10 in the ECC.
With the game tied at 58-58 with 2:35 to play, Avny hit back-to-back three-point shots (Elinor went 7-of-11 from beyond the arc on Saturday) to give Bridgeport a 64-58 lead which they never relinquished.
Elinor was joined in double-figure scoring by junior Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.), who scored 12 points off the UB bench.
Bridgeport senior Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) played a solid game grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds, blocking eight shots, scoring seven points and dishing out three assists.
Molloy was led by Christina Marra who scored 20 points.
The Bridgeport women are back in action on Wednesday night at New York Tech. Game time on Long Island is set for 5:00 p.m.
