Women's Basketball Cruises Past Mercy
Purple Knights Net A Season High In Points In 91-65 Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team scored a single-game, season-high in points on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights cruised to a 91-65 East Coast Conference home win over the Mercy College Mavericks. UB has now won three games in a row and six of their last seven contests. Bridgeport is now 12-11 overall and 10-6 in conference play. Mercy falls to 5-16 overall and 3-13 in the ECC.
Senior Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) had a double-double for the Purple Knights scoring a team-high 23 points, as she connected on 10-of-12 field goals, and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
Keil was joined in double-figures by classmate Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) with 16 points, sophomore Elsebeth Birman (Silver Spring, Md.) with 14 points and junior Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 12 points. Birman played a fine all-around game just missing a triple-double with nine assists and seven rebounds to go along with her 14 points.
Mercy's Ashley Borofsky, who scored her 1,000 career point in the game, led all players on the night with 31 points.
UB shot the ball extremely well on the night, as the Purple Knights connected on 53.7 percent of their shots from the floor (36 of 67).
Bridgeport will look to extend its winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon when they host Molloy College. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m.
