UB Women Pick Up Key ECC Road Win At Dowling
Purple Knights Top Golden Lions, 49-42
Oakdale, N.Y.-Senior guard Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) scored a game-high 19 points, 11 of which came in the second half, to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team a key 49-42 East Coast Conference road win over the host Dowling College Golden Lions on Saturday afternoon. With the win, UB is now 11-11 overall and 9-6 in Conference play. Dowling has the identical overall and conference records as Bridgeport. The Golden Lions and Purple Knights are now tied for second place in the conference standings with UB holding a 2-1 edge in the season series which is the first tie-breaker for seeding in the ECC Championship Tournament.
With the game tied at 31-31 in the second half, Bridgeport went on an 11-2 run from the 10:52 mark until 6:19 to play to take a 42-33 lead which they never relinquished.
Bridgeport senior center Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) fell just short of a double-double on the afternoon scoring eight points and grabbing eight rebounds. Keil also blocked four shots for the winners.
Connie Simmons led Dowling with 15 points in the loss.
The UB women will look to extend their winning streak to three games on Wednesday night when they host Mercy College in Hubbell Gym. Game time is 5:00 p.m.
