Women's Basketball Grabs 63-54 Home Win Over NYIT
Ivana Savic Leads UB In Scoring With Game-High 17 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Ivana Savic (Belgrade, Serbia) scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds to help the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team to a home 63-54 East Cost Conference win over the visiting New York Tech Lady Bears on Saturday afternoon. The win lifts the Purple Knights overall record to 8-10, and UB is now 6-5 in conference play. NYIT falls to 5-11 overall and 3-8 in the ECC.
Savic was joined in double-figure scoring by classmates Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) with 17 points and Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) with 16 points.
NYIT was led by Cierra Baker who had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Junior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) led Bridgeport on the glass with eight boards.
UB trailed 25-22 at the half, but the Purple Knights came back to outscore NYIT, 41-29, in the final 20 minutes of the contest, as the team hit 15 of 30 shots (50.0%), including connecting on 4 of 10 from three-point range in the second half. That hot-shooting helped UB overcome a big deficit on the boards, as they were outrebounded by a 50-34 margin and some poor free throw shooting, as Bridgeport hit only 11 of 25 shots from the foul line.
The Bridgeport women will look to run their winning streak to three games on Wednesday night when they travel to Queens (N.Y.) College for a 5:00 p.m. East Coast Conference tilt.
