Women's Hoops Snaps Four-Game Losing Skid With 66-53 Win At Southern New Hampshire
Elinor Avny Earns All-Tournament Honors At SNHU
Manchester, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing skid with a 66-53 win over the host Southern New Hampshire University Penman in the final game of the 2010 SNHU Holiday Classic. With the win, Bridgeport is now 4-7 overall. Southern New Hampshire falls to 3-7 overall.
UB raced out to a 5-0 lead in the game and never trailed in the contest. The Purple Knights held a 28-15 lead at halftime, and they upped their advantage to as many as 24 points (48-24) in the second half.
Senior Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) led four Bridgeport players in double-figure scoring with 18 points. Avny, who earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team in Manchester, was joined in double figures by classmate Kelly Keil (Sparta, N,J.) with 13 points and Julia Colley (JR, Harlow, England) and Ivana Savic (Belgrade, Serbia), each netted 10 points. Keil led the Purple Knights on the glass grabbing nine rebounds.
SNHU's Julia Houghtaling led all scorers and rebounders in the tilt with 19 points and 13 boards.
The UB women are next in action on Wednesday, January 5th when they return to East Coast Conference play with a home game against Queens (N.Y.) College. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 5:00 p.m.
