St. Rose Tops UB Women, 74-70, In Overtime
Purple Knights Into Holiday Break At 3-6 Overall
Bridgeport, Conn.-St. Rose's Ashley Rath, who led all scorers in the game with 23 points, hit a three-point shot with 37 second to play in overtime to give the Golden Knights a 72-70 lead over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights which they never relinquished on their way to a 74-70 non-conference win on Sunday afternoon in Connecticut. Rath's game-winning shot came after UB's Elsebeth Birman (SO, Silver Spring, Md.) had given her team a 70-69 lead with 56 seconds to play in the extra period when she converted a lay-up off an assist her senior Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel). The win lifts St. Rose's overall record to 8-2. Bridgeport is now 3-6 overall.
The Purple Knights trailed 37-26 at the half before rebounding to send the game into overtime tied at 64-64 when senior Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) scored off her own missed shot with 26 seconds to play in regulation.
Bridgeport's Julia Colley (JR, Harlow, England) led the Purple Knights in scoring with 16 points. She was joined in double figures by Elsebeth Birman, Kelly Keil and junior Jasmina Alisic (Graz, Austria), who each had 11 points plus Elinor Avny, who netted 10 points.
Junior Ivy Morrison (Topeka, Kan.) led Bridgeport in rebounding with eight boards. Amy Voelkel of St. Rose led all players in the contest with 12 rebounds.
Bridgeport is now off until Wednesday, December 29th when they will face Bentley University at the Southern New Hampshire Holiday Classic in Manchester, N.H.
