Bridgeport, CT-University of Bridgeport senior
guard Sidney Parsons (Chandler, AZ) scored eight
points to become the 13th player in UB women's basketball history
to reach the 1,000 career point mark, as the Purple Knight cruised
to a 63-48 home East Coast Conference win over the Mercy College
Mavericks on Wednesday night. Bridgeport raced out to an 8-0
lead to open the game and never looked back, as the team raised its
overall record 11-5, and its ECC mark to 8-2. The win also
snaps a two-game losing streak for the Purple Knights. With
the loss, Mercy is now 4-12 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
Junior
Ana-Marie Kammer (Frankfurt, Germany)
led Bridgeport in scoring on the night with a game-high 15 points,
and she also chipped in seven rebounds. UB junior
Kelly
Keil (Sparta, NJ) played a fine game off the bench
scoring 14 points, hitting 5-of-7 field goals, and blocking four
shots in 19 minutes of play. Senior
Emma
Beddome (Melbourne, Australia) nearly had a
double-double for Bridgeport 11 points and nine rebounds.
Junior Delmara Reece led Mercy with a
double-double, as she had a team-high 14 points and a game-high 10
boards.
Bridgeport will next be in action at home on Saturday
afternoon as they host the Molloy College Lions in a key East Coast
Conference match-up. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
