Softball Falls 7-5 to Goldey-Beacom in Opening Game of NCAA East Regional
Purple Knights (No. 6 seed) will now face seventh-seeded SNHU in an elimination game on Friday.

WILMINGTON, Del. – In the first game of the NCAA East Regional, the sixth-seeded University of Bridgeport softball team dropped a 7-5 contest at third-seeded Goldey-Beacom College on Thursday. The Purple Knights will now enter the loser's side of the draw which features a matchup against SNHU (No. 7 seed) on Friday afternoon.
All of UB's runs against the Lightning came in a massive third inning that saw the Purple Knights erase a 5-0 deficit. Angela Oros capped off the rally with a two-run home run that evened the game up at 5-5.
Sophomore Sydnee Perreault started the rally with a two-run double that scored Emily Chase and Breanna Pelaez. Chase reached on an error to lead off the frame while Pelaez walked.
Madison D'Amato then scored Bridgeport's third run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mya Jones. D'Amato legged out a bunt single to load the bases with no outs prior to the Perreault double.
Despite the loss in the circle, Kaite Burawski achieved an incredible milestone in the contest. With her third punch out of the game, the left-hander hit 1,000 career strikeouts across her illustrious tenure at UB.
Burawski now has 1,001 career punch outs in 735.2 innings pitched. She has a career ERA of just 1.92 with 78 wins to her name.
Oros' home run in the third inning served as her 10th long ball of the season. She is now tied for third in the east region in home runs this season. Her and Jones are now tied for second in the region with 49 RBIs.

The Purple Knights will meet the seventh-seeded Penmen in an elimination game on Friday at 2 p.m. UB defeated SNHU, 5-2, earlier this season during their spring break trip to Florida.
