Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team picked up an important East Coast Conference road sweep on Saturday at Queens (N.Y.) College, as UB took the opener, 5-4, and completed the sweep with a 5-1 win in game two. With the two victories, the Purple Knights are now 26-10 overall and 11-5 in the ECC. Queens falls to 4-23 overall and 2-14 in conference action.
In game one, Bridgeport scored five runs in the first two innings and held on for the win, as junior Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) homered.
Graduate student Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) picked up win number 14 of the season in the pitching circle in the opener allowing five hits in only one earned run over seven innings.
In the nightcap, senior Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) snapped a 1-1 tie with a two run home run in the top of the fourth inning, and the Purple Knights never looked backed.
Sophomore Miranda Hillman (Placentia, Calif.) earned her sixth win of 2019 in game two pitching a three-hit complete game victory in which she fanned two and walked a pair.
Up next, the UB softball is scheduled to play a non-conference home doubleheader on Monday versus Goldey-Beacom. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
