Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team took on East Coast Conference-leading LIU Post for the second time in five days, and for the second time the two teams spilt a doubleheader with the Purple Knights taking game one, 6-4, and the Pioneers winning game two, 11-3 in five innings. UB is now 20-20 overall and 7-11 in conference play. LIUP is now 23-14 overall and 13-3 in the ECC with two of those three losses coming against Bridgeport.
In game one, freshman Hope Lincoln (N. Providence, R.I.) keyed a five-run bottom of the third inning with a pinch hit grand slam, her first collegiate home run.
Junior Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) and sophomore Abbigail Blanchard (Pawcatuck, Conn.) each had two hits for the winners, and junior Stephanie Dean (Old Lyme, Conn.) and freshman Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.) each had an RBI in the opener.
Senior Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) earned win number 11 of the season in the pitching circle in game one firing a complete game in which she allowed seven hits, four runs and fanned three Pioneers.
In the nightcap, Kamryn Beach went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and freshman Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) drove in UB's other run with a first inning single. Sophomore Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) added two hits for Bridgeport in game two. Up next, the UB softball team is scheduled to host a non-conference doubleheader against Franklin Pierce on Thursday afternoon in Seaside Park. Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m. |
