Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team moved to 19-19 overall and 6-10 in East Coast Conference play with a home ECC doubleheader split against the visiting Molloy College Lions on a chilly Tuesday afternoon in Seaside Park. The host Purple Knights won game one, 5-1, and the visiting Lions rallied back to gain the split with a 12-5 victory in game two. With the split, Molloy is now 25-15 overall and 13-5 in conference play.
In the opener, senior pitcher Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) continued her string of outstanding starts firing a five-hit, complete game win to raise her season record to 10-6. Staheli allowed only one earned run over seven innings, as she fanned seven and walked three batters.
On offense in game one, sophomore Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) had three hits and drove in two, and classmate Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted including blasting her ninth home run of 2018 to start the day for UB.
Bridgeport sophomore Abbigail Blanchard (Pawcatuck, Conn.) added two hits for the winners in the opener, and junior Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) knocked in the Purple Knights other run.
In the nightcap, Bridgeport raced out to a quick 3-0 lead after one inning only to see Molloy come back to earn the victory.
Freshman Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) went 2-for-3 for UB in game two including hitting a two-run homer, the first of her college career in the bottom of the first inning.
Senior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.) and Samantha Sabor also had RBIs in game two for the Purple Knights.
The UB softball team will be right back in action on Wednesday afternoon when the continue East Coast Conference play with a doubleheader against conference leader LIU Post. Game one is scheduled to begin in Seaside Park at 2:30 p.m.
