Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team picked up its first East Coast Conference win of 2018 on Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights split a doubleheader at Molloy College winning game one, 5-2, and falling in the nightcap, 8-3. With the split, Bridgeport is now 12-12 overall and 1-3 in the ECC. The Lions are now 18-12 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
In the opener, freshman Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.) had three hits, and junior Stephanie Dean (Old Lyme, Conn.) added two more for the winners. Senior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.) and sophomores Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) and Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) each had one RBI for UB in game one.
Senior Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) fired a complete game to pick up win number six of the year, as worked all seven innings allowing only five hits, two runs (both earned) whiling fanning 10 batters,
In game two, Rodriguez drove in two more runs, and freshman Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calf.) had the other RBI.
Freshman Brittany Prock (Sunnyvale, Calif.) did an excellent job in relief for the Purple Knights in game two allowing only one unearned run in 4.1 innings pitched.
Up next, the UB softball team will continue its road trip with a Saturday doubleheader at NYIT. Game time on Long Island is set for 12 noon.
