Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team opened its 2018 East Coast Conference schedule in Flushing, N.Y. on Tuesday afternoon, and the Purple Knights fell in both ends of the doubleheader to the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, 6-5, in game one and, 8-0, in game two in five innings. With the two losses, UB is now an even 10-10 overall and 0-2 in the ECC. With the two wins, QC, evens its season mark at 5-5, and the Knights are 2-0 in conference play.
In the opener, Bridgeport took a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but the host scored two runs in that inning and added one more in the sixth and then held one for the win, as the Purple Knights scored one run in the seventh and had the tying and go-ahead runs on at second and third as the contest ended.
In game one, senior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.) had two hits and an RBI, and junior Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.), also each drove in a run.
In the nightcap, the Purple Knights were blanked on seven hits. Sophomore Abbigail Blanchard (Pawcatuck, Conn.) had two of those seven hits in game two.
Up next, the UB softball team will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. were a doubleheader against USciences on Friday afternoon.
