Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball split two games on Monday in Florida to move its 2018 season record to an even 4-4. The Purple Knights opened the day with a 14-6 loss in five innings against the University of Indianapolis and then came back to crush Salem (WVa.) University, 19-1, in five innings.
Against UIndy, sophomore Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) blasted a grand slam home run and also had a double, plus senior Gabryelle Dubois (Carlise, Iowa) and sophomore Abbigail Blanchard (Pawcatuck, Conn.), each had two hits.
In the big win over Salem, Luzzi went 4-for-4 with a double and triple. Dubois added two more hits, and junior Stephanie Dean (Old Lyme, Conn.) went 2-for-3 and scored four runs.
In the pitching circle, senior Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) earned the win working all five innings in which she struck out eight batters.
On Tuesday, the UB softball team continues its Spring Break Trip to the Sunshine State with contest versus Post (Conn.) University and Quincy (Ill.) University.
