Bridgeport, Conn.-A one-out RBI single up the middle by senior Ashley Hessler (Pawtucket, R.I.) in the bottom of the twelfth inning scored junior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.) from second base to lift the University of Bridgeport softball team a 2-1 walk-off win over the visiting LIU Post in game two of a season-ending East Coast Conference doubleheader for the Purple Knights in Seaside Park on Sunday afternoon. Rodriguez led off the decisive inning with a single and was sacrificed to second by senior Tara Faford (Grafton, Mass.).
LIU Post won Sunday's opener, 6-0, as UB could only manage three hits, as they were blanked by Hannah Olshevski, who took the loss in relief in game two.
With the split, Bridgeport ends the 2017 season with a 20-25 overall record and an 8-16 conference record. LIUP moves onto this week's 2017 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament at 24-24 overall and 10-14 in the ECC.
UB senior pitcher Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) closed out her career in Purple and White in dominant fashion in game two working all 12 innings without allowing an earned run. Alyssa, who finished 2017 with a 10-9 record, allowed only five hits, all singles, while striking out one and issuing three walks in those 12 innings.
Bridgeport sophomore Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) went 4-for-5 in game two, including a game-tying solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
