Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team dropped both ends of a home East Coast Conference doubleheader against Molloy College on Friday afternoon in Seaside Park, as the visiting Lions won game one, 3-0, and completed the sweep with a 5-2 victory in game two. Bridgeport is now 19-22 overall and 7-13 in conference play. Molloy ups its overall record to 30-14, and they are now 16-6 in the ECC plus are winners of 11 games in a row.
In the opener, the Purple Knights were limited to only five total hits, two of which came off the bat of senior Tara Faford (Grafton, Mass.).
Senior Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) pitched well in game one, as she fired a complete game allowing only seven hits, one earned run with seven strikeouts and only one base on balls.
In game two, junior Yalitza Rodriguez (Freeport, N.Y.) had two hits and drove in a run, and senior Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) drove in UB's other run.
Up next, the UB softball team will close out its 2017 road schedule at NYIT with an ECC doubleheader slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
