Waterbury, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball lost both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Post University on a cold Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights fell in the opener, 3-2, and lost 4-3 in eight innings in game two. UB is now 9-8 overall, and the host Eagles are now 4-8 on the season.
In game one, a solo home run by Post's Kayla Kresley in the bottom of the sixth inning was the difference in the game.
UB senior Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) was the hard-luck loser in the opener pitching a complete game in which she allowed on one earned run and five total hits with three strikeout and only one walk. Lajoie is now 4-3 on the young season.
Senior Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) had a hit and a run batted in in game one, and junior Gabryelle Dubois (Carlisle, Iowa) had a hit and two stolen bases for UB.
In game two, freshman Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.), who finished with two hits in the nightcap, led off the game with a solo home run. Sophomore Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla,) also had two hits and an RBI for the Purple Knights in game two, as Bridgeport held a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth before Post plated three runs to tie the game and then win in extra innings.
Freshman Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) took the loss in relief for UB in game two.
Up next, the UB softball team will open East Coast Conference play at LIU Post on Tuesday afternoon.
