Saint Anselm
Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team is now 6-2 overall after splitting a pair of game for the second straight day on Saturday, as UB defeated Assumption in a pitchers; duel, 1-0, and closed the day out with a 7-2 loss versus St. Anselm.
In Saturday's opener against Assumption (4-8), senior Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) raised her season record in the pitching circle to 3-0 firing a four-hit, complete game shutout.
Freshman Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.), who celebrated her birthday on Saturday, did it in fine style against Assumption with three hits and cutting down the potential tying run at the plate with a strong throw.
Against St. Anselm (2-5), the Hawks, playing as the visitors in the game, jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the top of the second inning and never looked back.
Junior Gabryelle Dubois (Carlisle, Iowa) had two hits in Saturday's second game, and senior Tara Faford (Grafton, Mass.) plus sophomore Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) each drove in a run for the Purple Knights.
After taking Sunday off, the UB softball team continues play in Florida on Monday facing Clarion and Philadelphia University.
