Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's softball team split a home East Coast Conference doubleheader versus the visiting Molloy College Lions on Wednesday afternoon in Seaside Park, winning the opener in exciting fashion, 4-3 in 10 innings, and falling in game two, 12-2. With the split, UB is now 6-16 overall and 1-7 in conference action. Molloy is now 16-12 overall and 7-3 in the ECC.
In game one, freshman Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) lined a two-out single into centerfield to give her team the 4-3 win in 10 innings.
UB junior Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) launched her third home run of 2016 in the first inning of the opener, a two-run shot to left field to give the Purple Knights an early 2-0 advantage.
Trailing, 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, UB tied things up at 3-3 when senior Imane Alou Issa (Berchem, Belgium) plated a run with one of her four hits in the contest.
Freshman Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) had a strong game at the plate for the Purple Knights in the opener going 3-for-5.
In the pitching circle in game one, junior Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) dazzled for winners firing a 10-inning complete game to pick up the win to raise her season mark to 2-5. Bua struck out 12 and walked four, as she scattered 10 hits and allowed only two earned runs.
In the nightcap, Meghan O'Leary drove in both UB runs with a sixth inning double, and senior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) went 2-for-3.
Up next, the UB softball team will continue East Coast Conference play with a Saturday doubleheader at Dowling College. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.
