Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split two games on its penultimate day in the Sunshine State of Florida on Thursday losing the first game of the day to Franklin Pierce, 5-2, and rebounding to blank Saint Michael's (Vt.) College, 2-0, in a battle of Purple Knights. With the split, UB heads into is final day of action in Florida on Friday with a 5-7 record.
Versus Franklin Pierce, Bridgeport fell could not rally from a 5-0 deficit in the first inning. Against FPU, freshman Jenna DiLorenzo (Woodbridge, Conn.) had two hits including a home run, and classmate Kamryn Beach (Tampa. Fla.) drove in the other run.
In the win of Saint Michael's, junior Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) was dominant in the pitching circle firing a complete game three-hit shutout in which she fanned five and walked only one.
On offense in the win over the other Purple Knights, junior Kerri Agrela (Smithfield, R.I.) had two hits and drove in a run.
The UB softball team will wrap up its Spring Break Trip to Florida on Florida on Friday evening with a doubleheader against Merrimack College beginning at 5:00 p.m.
