Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-For the second straight day, the University of Bridgeport softball team fell in both end of an East Coast Conference doubleheader. On Wednesday, the Purple Knights travelled to Mercy College, and the Maverick won game one with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, 4-3, and completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory in five innings in the nightcap. UB is now 9-25 overall and 5-15 in the ECC. Mercy is now 8-28 overall and 7-12 in conference play.
In the opener, Bridgeport grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of sixth inning on a solo home run by sophomore Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.), her third homer of the season, but the host Mavericks tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and won on a home run of their own in the seventh.
Junior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with a double for the Purple Knights in game one.
In the nightcap, UB was limited to only five hits, and no player had more multiple knocks.
The Bridgeport softball team will look to get back in the win column tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon, when they host Molloy College at 3:00 p.m.
