Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team returned to action in Florida on Monday and split two games, defeating St. Michael's College, 7-5, and losing a slugfest to Minnesota State Moorhead, 15-10 in 8 innings. With the split, the Purple Knights are new 3-5 on the season.
In the win over the other Purple Knights of St. Michael's, junior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calf.) blasted a home run and knocked in three runs, and sophomore Tara Faford (Grafton, Mass.) went 2-for-3 to help power the UB 13-hit attack.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) picked up the win firing three strong innings of relief in which she did not allow an earned run.
Versus Minnesota State Moorhead, senior Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calf.) went 5-for-5 at the plate with two double and a home run. Classmate Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had a pair of two-base hits, and junior Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.) had three singles.
On Tuesday, the UB softball team will face Minnesota-Duluth in a doubleheader slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
