Purple Knights Earn Important ECC Softball Doubleheader Split at Dowling
Team Back In Action At STAC On Thursday
Brookhaven, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team picked up an important East Coast Conference road doubleheader split on Tuesday versus the host Dowling College Golden Lions, as the Purple Knights came back to win game one, 4-3, and fell in the nightcap, 11-3 in five innings. UB is now 14-18 overall and 7-7 in conference play. After the split, Dowling is now 15-13 overall and 8-3 in the ECC.
In the opener, the Purple Knights trailed 3-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning before junior Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) drilled her first home run a 2014, a three-run blast, to tie the game.
In the top of the sixth, UB grabbed the winning run on a fielder's choice RBI by junior Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.).
Freshman pitcher Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) who figured in the decision in both games, earned her seventh win of the year in game one, and senior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched her seventh save.
In game two, senior Mallory Streat (Guilford, Conn.) had Bridgeport's lone RBI, and sophomore Imane Alou Issa (Berchem, Belgium) had two hits.
The UB softball team is back in conference action at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Thursday afternoon.
