Softball Drops Two Games Versus Tough Opposition In Florida
UB Falls To West Virgina Wesleyan And Shippensburg On Tuesday
Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team took on two tough opponents on Tuesday in Florida, and the Purple Knights lost twice, falling to West Virginia Wesleyan, 5-2, and dropping a 4-0 decision to Shippensburg University. UB is now 3-5 on the young 2014 season.
Versus West Virginia Wesleyan, junior Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and one run batted in. Classmate Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) knocked in Bridgeport's other run in Tuesday's opening game.
Against Shippensburg, the Purple Knights were shut out on six hits. Freshman Ashley Hessler (Pawtucket, R.I.) had a double for UB in Tuesday's second game. Kaitlyn Lajoie (Fr., Vernon, Conn.) was the tough luck loser against Shippensburg allowing only one earned run in four innings. Fellow freshman Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) fired three innings of stellar relief allowing no runs on only three hits with no walks and one strike out.
The Purple Knights will continue their annual Spring Trip to the Sunshine State playing games through Friday. Tomorrow, Bridgeport faces West Liberty and Tiffin.
