Softball Splits For The Second Straight Day In Florida
Purple Knights Top Alderson Broaddus And Fall To Southern Connecticut State
Clermont, Florida-For the second straight day, the University of Bridgeport softball team split two games on their season-opening Spring Trip to Florida. The Purple Knights opened play on Saturday with a 9-6 win over the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus College of West Virginia, and the team closed out the day with a4-0 loss to Southern Connecticut State University. Bridgeport is now 2-2 on the young season.
In the win over A-B, senior Mallory Streat (Guilford, Conn.) blasted a three-run homer, and junior Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) knocked in three runs with a triple. Freshman Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) recorded her second win of the young season with five shutout innings in relief.
In the loss to SCSU, UB could manage only three hits. Freshman Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N>Y.) was outstanding in relief not allowing a run in five innings pitched on only two hits.
On Sunday, the Purple Knights will face Nyack and Stonehill in Florida.
