Molloy Takes Two From UB Softball
Purple Knights Wrap Up ECC Play At 8-20; Purple Knights Close Out 2013 With Noon Doubleheader On Sunday At DeLuca Field Versus Holy Family
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team saw its overall record fall to 17-31 and wrapped up East Coast Conference play 8-20, as the Purple Knights were swept in and ECC doubleheader hosted by the Molloy College Lions on Saturday afternoon, losing game one, 3-0 and dropping the nightcap, 11-4. Molloy is 43-11 overall and 24-4 in conference play.
In game one, UB managed only two hits, a sixth inning bunt single by Emma Wojcik (Grad. Student, Warsaw Poland) and one in the seventh by sophomore Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.).
In game two, the Purple Knights raced out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first, but it was all Molloy after that. Sophomore Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) drove in two runs, and senior Stephanie Pearce (Surrey, England) and sophomore Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had the other UB runs batted in. Sophomore Jessica Griesinger (Brewster N.Y.) had two hits for the Purple Knights in the nightcap.
The UB softball team will look to end the 2013 season on a high note when they host Holy Family University at 12 noon in Stratford, Connecticut at DeLuca Field. Sunday's season finale will also be Senior Day for the Purple Knights.
