Softball Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Day
UB Drops Two Games To League-Leading LIU Post
Stratford, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team hosted Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Saturday afternoon at DeLuca Field, and unfortunately for UB fans, the Purple Knights were swept in an East Coast Conference doubleheader by league-leading LIU Post, as the Pioneers won a slugfest in game one, 11-8 and took game two, 4-1. Bridgeport is now 16-24 overall and 7-15 in the ECC. The Pioneers raise their overall mark to 34-10, and they are 20-2 in conference play.
In game one, sophomore Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had three hits including a home run, and fellow sophomore Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 at the plate, as she crushed a three-run home run and drove in five runs.
In game two, the Purple Knights scored their only run on a second inning solo homer by sophomore Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.).
The UB softball team is back in action this Tuesday (April 23) when they travel to Queens (N.Y.) College for an important conference doubleheader. Action gets underway in Flushing, New York at 3:00 p.m.
