Softball Grabs 8-7 See-Saw Win Over NYIT In Game Two To Earn Split Of Home ECC Double Dip
Purple Knights Continue ECC Action On Thursday When They Host Mercy
Stratford, Conn.-After dropping the opening game, 10-1, the University of Bridgeport softball team battled back to take a see-saw 8-7 victory in game two to earn a split of an ECC doubleheader with the New York Institute of Technology Bears On Tuesday afternoon. UB is now 14-21 overall and 5-12 in conference play. With the split, NYIT is now 13-23 overall and 7-13 in the ECC.
In game one, sophomore Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) knocked in the team's only run.
In the nightcap, Bridgeport pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab an 8-6 lead, and the Purple Knights held on for the 8-7 triumph.
Sophomore Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 in game two with one RBI, and classmate Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had two hits and two RBI for Bridgeport to help the Purple Knights to the win in game two.
Junior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) persevered in game two to pitch a complete game to notch her seventh win of 2013.
The UB softball team is back in action on Thursday afternoon when they host Mercy College in East Coast Conference action at DeLuca Field in Stratford. Play gets underway at 1:30 p.m. when the two teams will complete a suspended game from April 2 with the score tied at 5-5 entering the top of the sixth inning. After the suspended game is finished, the Mavericks and the Purple Knights will pay their regularly scheduled doubleheader.
