Dowling Softball Takes Two From UB
Purple Knights Now 11-20 Overall And 4-11 In Conference Play
Stratford, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team lost both ends of an East Coast Conference doubleheader on a wind-swept Thursday afternoon at DeLuca Field in Stratford, as the Dowling College Golden Lions took game one, 5-3, and completed the sweep with a 14-2 win in game two. With the two losses, the Purple Knights have now lost five games in a row, and their overall record stands at 11-20, and UB is 4-11 in the ECC. Dowling is now 21-9 overall and 10-6 in the ECC.
In game one, senior Stephanie Pearce (Surry, England) drove in two runs, and sophomore Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had the team's other RBI. Sophomores Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) and Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) each had two hits.
In game two, UB took a 1-0 lead scoring on an error in the bottom of the first inning, but it was all Dowling after that. Katelyn Wall blasted her first home run of the season in the nightcap. Sydney Phillips added two in the second game to give a total of four on the afternoon, and graduate student Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) also chipping in two hits.
The UB softball team will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they are scheduled to host Nyack College. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
