Purple Knights Grab ECC Softball Win At Mercy
UB Takes Game One, 10-5. Game Two Halted By Darkness Tied 5-5 And Will Be Completed On April 18
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team won game one of an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Mercy College on a frosty Tuesday in New York by a score of 10-5. The Purple Knights and the Mavericks saw game two halted by darkness tied 5-5 after five innings. Game two will be completed on April 18 before the start of the regularly scheduled doubleheader between the two teams hosted by Bridgeport. With the result in game one, UB is now 8-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Mercy is now 11-11 overall and 4-3 in the ECC.
In game one, sophomore Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) had three hits plus drove in two runs, plus freshman Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.) had three RBI. Freshman Jennine Walsh (Langley, B.C., Canada) picked up the win in the pitching circle.
The UB softball team is back in action on Thursday afternoon when the Purple Knights travel to LIU Post for an ECC doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
