Softball Splits With AIC
UB Takes Game One, 8-2, And Falls In Game Two, 11-8, In Eight Innings
Stratford, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with American International College on Monday afternoon at DeLuca Field in Stratford, as the Purple Knight cruised to an 8-2 win in game one, and the Yellow Jackets rallied to take game two, 11-8 in 8 innings. UB is now 7-1 overall and AIC stands at 4-12 after the split.
In game one, sophomore Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had two hits and drove in a pair, and classmate Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) also had two RBIs. Junior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took the win with a complete game, five-hitter. The Purple Knights led the opener 7-0 after three innings on their way to the team's seventh win of the season.
In game two, AIC trailed 7-1 after three innings, and the Yellow Jackets rallied with two runs in the fifth, three runs in the sixth , one run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to post the extra-innings victory.
Three UB players had two hits apiece in game two, as Paige Owens (Fr., Berlin, Conn.), Morgan Dunn (So., C ohoes, N.Y.)plus Stephanie Pearce (Sr., Surrey, England) help lead the 13-hit Bridgeport attack.
The UB softball team returns to East Coast Conference action tomorrow afternoon at Mercy College. Action gets underway at 3:00 p.m.
