Purple Knights Flex Offensive Muscle In Pair Of Softball Wins On Wednesday In Florida
UB Tops West Liberty, 4-3, And Bemidji State, 5-1, As Team Blasts Three Home Runs
Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team put on an impressive display of power on Wednesday as the Purple Knights raised their 2013 season record to 4-6 with wins over West Liberty, 4-3, and Bemidji State University, 5-1.
Versus West Liberty, freshman McKenzie Shea (Spokane Valley, Wash.) crushed a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to help lift UB to the victory. Classmate Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.) went 3-for-4 at the plate against West Liberty, and junior pitcher Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was again strong in the circle hurling a complete game to up her season mark to 2-3.
In the 5-1 win over the Beavers of Bemidji State University, senior Stephanie Pearce (Surry, England) and sophomore Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) went deep for the winners. Paige Owens went 2-for-4 to give herself a fine 5-for-8 day at the plate for Bridgeport.
Emma Wojcik (Grad., Warsaw, Poland) banged out three hits, and Pearce, Dunn and sophomore Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) each had two hits for UB.
Freshman Jennine Walsh (Langley, B.C., Canada) picked up the win in the pitching circle for the Purple Knights against BSU.
Bridgeport will take Thursday off before the team closes out its 2013 Spring Trip to Florida with games against Alderson-Broaddus and Bentley on Friday.
