Softball Wraps Up 2012 Schedule With ECC Split Versus Queens
UB Takes Game Two, 4-0, After Falling In Game One, 7-0
Stratford, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team finished off its 2012 schedule at home on Saturday with a East Coast Confernce doubleheader split against the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights. After being blanked 7-0 on only three hits in the opener by QC, UB turned the tables with a 4-0 victory in game two. With the split, Bridgeport wrapped up the season at 15-28 overall, and UB went conference action with an 8-20 record. Queens is now 20-16 overall and 13-15 in the ECC.
Sophomore Chloe Shill (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Taylor Hendrickson (Binghamton, N.Y.) combined for the shut out in the pitching circle, the team's second whitewashing of the season, in game two with Shill picking up the victory.
On offense in the nightcap, freshman Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) and junior Stephanie Pearce (Surrey, England), each had two hits and drove in a run. Freshman Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) had the Purple Knights' other RBI in game two.
Saturday's action opened with the UB softball team honoring its two seniors, Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) and Leona Reyna (San Diego, Calif.).
The Bridgeport softball team was scheduled to close out the 2012 season on Sunday afternoon at DeLuca Field in Stratford with a non-conference doubleheader versus Chestnut Hill College but those games will not be played due to the forecast for heavy rain up and down the East Coast from Sunday morning through Monday.
