Softball Come Back From Eight Runs Down To Earn ECC Split At NYIT
UB Takes Game Two, 15-10, After Losing Game One, 5-1
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team rallied from an 8-0 deficit after two innings to post a 15-10 East Coast Conference win over the host NYIT Bears in game two of a doubleheader to salvage a split of the pair after NYIT took game one, 5-1.
The Purple Knights scored a total of 11 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to defeat the Bears in game two.
Junior Stephanie Pearce (Surrey, England) who had two hits in game one and knocked in UB's lone run, had three RBI in the nightcap as did freshman Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.).
Freshman Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) had three hits and two runs batted for the game two winners. Abby Young (Fr., Salem, Conn.) and sophomore Gabbie Giaquinto (West Haven, Conn.) also knocked in a pair of runs for UB as part of the 15-run barrage.
Senior Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) went 3-for-4 in game two.
Sophomore Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who took the loss in the opener, was the game two winner to even her season mark at 9-9. Tiffany worked five innings in relief to get the victory.
The Bridgeport softball team returns to East Coast Conference play on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Mercy College.
