Big Rally Lifts Softball To Home Split With St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman Katelyn Wall Goes 7-for-8 At The Plate In The Two games With A Home Run And Seven RBI
Stratford, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's softball team railed from a 6-2 deficit after the top of the third inning in game two, scoring 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings, to salvage a split of a home East Coast Conference doubleheader versus the with a 14-7 win in the nightcap after dropping game one, 8-4 in eight innings. With the split, UB is now 12-23 overall and 5-15 in conference play. STAC is now 9-21 overall and 3-15 in the ECC.
After going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in the opener, freshman Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) went 4-for-5 with five runs batted in including a two-run, 7-7 tie-breaking single in the bottom of the fifth inning to help the Purple Knights to the win. Senor Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland), and freshmen Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) and Taylor Hendrickson (Binghamton, N.Y.) each had two hits in game two, as the Purple Knights banged out a total of 14 hits on their way to the victory.
Junior Alitha Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) picked up the win in relief in game two, and sophomore Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N,Y.), who took the loss in game one, picked up her first save of 2012 in the nightcap.
The Bridgeport softball team is back in action on Thursday afternoon at NYIT.
