Softball Splits Fourth Consecutive Doubleheader
At Nyack, Purple Knights Win Game One, 10-1, And Drop Game Two, 4-3
Orangetown, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split its fourth consecutive doubleheader on Monday afternoon as the Purple Knights traveled to the shadow of the Tappan Zee Bridge to face the Nyack College Warriors. UB won game one, 10-1 in five innings, and Nyack came back to win game two, 4-3. Bridgeport is now 11-14 overall, and Nyack now stands at 3-23 overall.
In game one, sophomore Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went the distance in the pitching circle to raise her season record to 8-4.
On offense, freshman Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) had two hits and knocked in three runs for the winners. Senior Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) and freshman Jade Blair (West Deptford, N.J.) also had two hits each for the Purple Knights in the opener. Blair also had three RBI.
In game two, freshman Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) blasted her first collegiate home run, but it was not enough, as Nyack rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab the 4-3 victory. Sophomore Chloe Shill (Miami, Fla.) was the losing pitcher in the nightcap. Shill is now 1-3 on the season.
The Bridgeport softball team is right back in action on Tuesday afternoon, as UB returns to East Coast Conference play at Queens (N.Y.) College. Action gets underway in Flushing at 3:00 p.m.
