Softball Earns Split With NYIT
Junior Alitha Krolikowski Outstanding In The Pitching Circle In Game Two
Stratford, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team earned a split of a home East Coast Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against the NYIT Bears. After losing game one, 12-6, the Purple Knights rebounded to gain the split with a 2-1 victory in the nightcap. With the split, Bridgeport is now 9-12 overall and 3-5 in ECC action. NYIT is now 4-12 overall and 1-3 in conference play. UB's nine win already this season equal the team's win total for all of 2011.
In the game two win, Bridgeport scored two runs in the first inning keyed by an RBI double off the bat of freshman Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.). Junior Alitha Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) made those two runs stand up, as she was outstanding in the pitching circle picking up her first victory of 2012 as she fired a six-hitter in going the distance. Alitha struck out four Bears and walked only one on her way to the win.
In game one, the Purple Knights banged out 12 hits, but it was not enough as NYIT capitalized on six Bridgeport errors to post the 12-6 win. Jessica Griesinger (Fr., Brewster, N.Y.), Emma Wojcik (Sr., Warsaw, Poland), Mallory Streat (Soph., Guilford, Conn.) and Morgan Dunn, each had two hits for Bridgeport in game one.
The UB softball team is back in action at home on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when the Mercy College Mavericks come to DeLuca Filed for a 3:00 p.m. ECC doubleheader.
