UB Sweeps St. Thomas Aquinas In ECC Softball Action
Purple Knights Take Game One, 7-1, And Win Game Two, 5-1
Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team snapped an eight-game losing streak and picked up its first two East Coast Conference wins of 2012, as the Purple Knights swept a doubleheader at St. Thomas Aquinas College, winning game one, 7-1, and taking game two, 5-1.
With the two wins, Bridgeport is now 7-10 overall and 2-4 in conference action. STAC falls to 4-10 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
In game one, sophomore pitcher Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) raised her season record to 5-3, as she fired a one-hitter.
On offense for the Purple Knights in game one, freshman Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) had three hits, and sophomore Mallory Streat (Guilford, Conn.) drove in three runs. Junior Stephanie Pearce (Surrey, England) blasted her first collegiate home run for the winners in the opener.
In game two, freshman Taylor Hendrickson (Binghamton, N.Y.) threw a complete game two-hitter to earn her first college win.
Freshman Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 to lead a 12-hit UB offensive attack in game two.
The Bridgeport softball team is back in action at home on Monday afternoon, March 26, when Post University comes to DeLuca Field in Stratford. Action is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
