Softball Goes 2-1 On A Busy Wednesday In Florida
Purple Knights Now 5-2 On The Year
Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team went 2-1 on a busy Wednesday in Florida. The Purple Knights opened the day with a 7-1 loss to Stonehill in the morning, but UB followed that up with a 6-0 blanking of Nyack and a come-from-behind 8-6 victory over Philadelphia University to close out the day. Bridgeport now heads into its final two games in Florida on Friday with a 5-2 overall record.
In the win over Nyack, sophomore Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was dominant in the pitching circle firing a two-hit, complete game shutout. Freshman Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) was the hitting star for the Purple Knights in the win over the Warriors, as she banged out two doubles and drove in three runs.
In the Philadelphia U. game, Bridgeport trailed 6-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. After singles by freshmen Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) and Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.), senior Emma Wojcik (Warsaw, Poland) launched a three-run homer to give the Purple Knights an 8-6 lead which they would not relinquish as Tiffany Irrera held the Lady Rams scoreless in the top of the seventh to notch her second complete game victory of the day.
UB closes out its Spring Break trip to Florida on Friday evening with games against Millersville (5 p.m.) and Franklin Pierce (7 p.m.).
