UB Softball Raises Record To 3-1
Purple Knights Defeat Nyack And St. Michael's
Clermont, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team picked up two wins on Monday in Florida to raise its early season record to 3-1. UB opened the day with a 4-2 win over Nyack College and completed the day with a 5-3, nine-inning victory of St. Michael's College.
Against Nyack, freshman Morgan Dunn (Cohoes, N.Y.) blasted a three-run home run, and sophomore Chloe Shill (Miami, Fla.) pitched a complete game, three-hitter to even her season mark at 1-1.
In the extra innings victory of St. Michael's, sophomore Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pitched all nine innings to raise her season record to 2-0.
The Connecticut Purple Knights pushed across two runs in the top of ninth versus the Vermont Purple Knights as senior Leona Reyna (San Diego, Calif.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance freshman Sydney Phillips (Sebastopol, Calif.) to third base where she was plated by a triple off the bat of Jessica Griesinger (Fr., Brewster, N.Y.), who then scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Alitha Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.).
The UB softball team is back in action on Wednesday, March 14 in Florida when they face Stonehill at 9:00 a.m. and have a rematch with Nyack at 1:00 p.m.
